Bad Gpu/Cpu Usage
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

My Cpu (Amd Fx 6300) does not get used properly by the Game.
Every Core is not used more than 60 percent the majority of time.
Same for the Gpu (Nvidia Gtx 460) It does not get used more than 40 to 70 percent, except for the infantry Showcase, there the Gpu does get used fully. In the Helicopter Showcase for example it is particularly bad, the Gpu does not get used more than around 35 percent wich results in horrible 18 to 25 fps. In generall I just get between arround 20 to arround 35 fps

I know that a lot of people have simillar problems, so it is really on you to fix it. The game looks very nice so far, so it would be a shame, if people cannot enjoy it, because there hardware is not used proerly. It´s on you!

Really, just how rude. BI isn't here to comply to your every wish, you bought their game, and they can simply say "we're done with you, bye". They are not your servants, so don't treat them like one. Talk to them how you would talk to any other respectable person.

Now, on with the issue. The AMD FX processors are horrible for CPU intensive gaming, simply for the fact that they're designed for high processor output, not high core output. What they do is put in a large number of mediocre cores to have a good processor performance, but when it comes to gaming (which only uses 1-4 cores), the # of cores isn't really a factor anymore, and it really comes down to the performance of each core. On the FX processors, its horrible, so that's why you're getting such low FPS.

Also, to determine if your CPU is doing the bottle-necking, if ANY of the cores has a usage > 80%, then your CPU limited. That means your GPU usage is going to go down, since it cannot get enough instructions from the CPU to operate at full efficiency. When the GPU is not used fully, that means you are CPU limited.

Again, don't expect BI to optimize for the high-core low-per-core-performance type processors any time soon, as that's not how games function (the one 1 heavy thread most of the time). To tell you the truth, you'd get much higher FPS on any i3 with a higher clock than your current CPU, since those will have more per-core performance.

"OP, it's like asking BI to optimize the game for a Pentium processor, it's understandable that you're getting low FPS, but it's not the software's fault, it's the hardware's fault."

Ok I admit I my post was a bit unpolite and I was harsh to the developers.
But...
I really respect them because they make one of the last really great games that does not just ajust to the mainstream needs.

And my friend: you have a really false opinion on fx processors.
Amd has improved the piledriver cpus quite a bit over the bulldozers and in fact they have great potential, you saw crysis 3 benchmarks?

And if my cores are used in a way that the first core is used to 60 to 70 percent but the other five only to arround 50 percent than the cpu is just not used to it´s full potential
and it´s on the developers to change that. Same for gpu.
And also the majority of people using intel cpus have the same problems.

I think your way of replieng to me is kind rude. I mean you are really not informed very well. maybe a fx 6300 has not the same gaming performance as an i5 but it´s really not like it was bottlenecking a gtx 460.

Its being optimized already probably, this problem has been spammed here and has been acknowledged by the developers already. they are working on it.
