I don't know whether it hits above or is just super inaccurate in general but either way i just avoid using pistols regardless.

Had a pistol 2v2 with friends yesterday. I wondered why I didn't get any hits. My friend said he got hits when he was aiming at the ground. Very strange indeed.
snippet of not-hitting with handgun aimed down the sights (don't mind the languag) and my friend shooting on the ground in front of me and me getting hit at the end. (short video)
