Equipment slot improvements (Addon suggestion?)
Currently you can select between grenades and explosives charges with the 4 key, and between different coloured smoke shells with the 5 key, and it work quite well. I would like to see this expanded, to increase the ease of use for selecting between multiple items and tools from the players inventory. Although the vanilla game only has a few items available for these slots, the huge number of excellent addons available has expanded the choice to the point that managing it all can be tricky.
I would do this by allowing each key, from 1 to 0 to have multiple potential uses, selectable either by;
A: repeatedly press the selected key to cycle through the choices
Or
B: hold the selected key and use mouse wheel to cycle up/down.
I've made this list based on some of the addons I use, such as ACE Medical Prototypes, and Wirecutters 2, and this has come about largely through frustrations, such as accidentally trying to heal someone with a spanner (because you used that slot for vehicle repair just now), or apply saline instead of morphine.
Suggested mappings are below, but these should be user configurable for personal preferences.
- [Primary weapon]
- [Secondary weapon]
- [Tertiary weapon] Sidearm/bayonet
- [Explosive ordanance] Grenades/M112 Explosives/Mines/Stun Grenades/Flashbangs
- [Signalling] Smoke shells (select types and colour), flares (select types and colour)
- [Critical medical care] Bandage/Tourniquet
- [Medical applicators] Morphine, (+ from ACE medical Prototypes - Epinephrine/Naloxone/Phenephrine/Metaprolol/Phenylephrine/Ammonium Carbonate)
- [Medical post care] (Medical Box/Saline/(with potential for future expansion such as splints or blood transfusion)
- [Equipment] Radio/Torch/detonator/GPS
- [Tools] Spade/Wrench/Wirecutters (Fence cutting)
This should be flexible enough to allow future addons to be incorporated easily, and make management of inventory items and tools much more straightforward during gameplay.
I'm not sure if items already have a defined slot field, but this could be a starting point for the default settings.
