Crash and Freeze In Less Than One Minute After Logging Onto A Server After 1.28 on Linux Under Proton
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

As the title says following the 1.28 stable release DayZ now crashes in a minute or less after logging onto a server I can get in game play for less than a minute and then the game will freeze and display this error 0x00000001 - UNABLE_TO_INIT_DXGI now as far as I understand this is a directx related error but this did not appear before 1.28 it does not matter whether it is a modded server or an official server both will result in the same crash and error.

Steps To Reproduce

launch DayZ from steam
log onto any server
play for around a minute or maybe 2 at the longest and then the game will crash

Note: I'm the only person I know who plays DayZ on linux and have not been able to find anyone else talking about the issue but it is not a hardware issue as I cannot get this crash to occur on windows at all I assume it is related to something with a change in the latest patch and proton.

Additional Information

This is on Fedora Workstation 42 on kernel version 6.14.9-300 using both Proton Experimental, 9.0-4 as well as Proton GE 10-3 which is an unofficial version but generally works very well

I have the same issue. I thought it was my Nvidia drivers first, so I downgraded from 575.57.08 to 570.153.02, without this helping.
I've tried purging and reinstalling DayZ and launching with Proton 10.3 official.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-14600KF

Please see attached logfiles.

Here are the two most recently dated ones from the report folder

Also I don't know why there from entirely different dates but those were the two newest the only other .mdmp files was from the end of May.

Hello.
When it comes to running the game on Linux client-side, we do not offer full support.
It might run but we cannot guarantee that it will be without issues.
Regards,
Geez

So you think this is a issue in Linux?
DayZ has been my primary game since 2021 (in Linux), so I'd be very happy if you would take a look at it.
Is it anything you can recommend us doing for troubleshooting?

Unfortunately we cannot devote team members to debug issues on currently not supported platform.
