Vote Kick + Ban Trolls
Feedback, NormalPublic

Description

I hope this is the right place for this, but it's not necessarily a bug.

There is a whole group of players going from server to server, vote-kicking entire teams. Myself and a number of players experienced this over the weekend. We believe the group communicates through Discord. They join servers and kick entire teams. This happened between 9 PM ET - 2 AM ET Friday through Sunday. I experienced it literally every single night I played this weekend (6+ servers/matches) before I gave up and joined a private session.

  • The trolls systematically join servers, and there are enough of them to obtain votes to quickly kick players and then kick everyone one by one. I experienced this on US teams only, but Soviet teams also reported it was happening on their teams in global chat.
  • The trolls will also join and claim "So and so just tk'd me with grenades, everyone kick them now." Then their troll friends will say something similar to get the actual players to believe people are team-killing when they aren't. That makes it even easier for them to kick people.
  • One of the player's names is offensive, but I'll include it here for devs. to look into: "war on nigrs" is one of them. Another one starts with "medicalkrack", but I'm not sure what the rest of the name was. There were 2-3 others, but I'm unsure of their names. I did show some of my teammates how to submit feedback in-game and told them to include the names and they said they did.
  • The current vote-kick system is very easy to be exploited in this way. I thought after the first night, they would get bored of doing this. But, it was clear they were systematically doing this every single night, server by server.

Recommendations:

Due to how the current vote-kick system can easily be exploited by trolls, I have a few initial thoughts and recommendations:

1.) Require a lot more votes to kick higher ranks, like Sargeant and above. Sargeants were getting kicked after playing for hours by these trolls, along with the rest of the team. I captured tons of bases, was running supplies, etc., and then these trolls kicked me and the whole team. Super dissapointing.
2.) Don't allow players to vote-kick anyone if they've just joined a session. For example, they should be required to be in a session for at least 30 minutes before being able to vote someone out. The trolls were joining sessions having 10+ people kicked in just around 5 minutes.
3.) Require a higher number of votes for vote-kicks initiated by the Private rank. For example, if I'm a private and vote to kick someone, more votes from the team should be required before that individual is kicked.

The above tweaks favor higher ranks and will make it more difficult for trolls to exploit the current system. They'll actually have to be in a session for a longer duration of time, will require more votes, and will have to progress in rank in order for their votes to be weighted more.

Of course, it will also make it harder to kick people tk'ing and such, but that's not really an issue since they get automatically kicked anyway after multiple tks.

The benefits of the above tweaks would force trolls to actually have to play for a while and get more votes in order to kick an entire team.

This is the exact place to post this. Great feedback. I have experienced this once before as well.

It’s sad to hear this is happening because the community has been so welcoming and great to play with as a whole. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for this when I play next. Your suggestions seem like a good structure to prevent this down the line. The join timer limit of 30 minutes before being able to vote would seem to help and voting out a higher ranking player being more difficult could help too. I’m wondering if this group of people are doing this on any servers where they’ve already reached a higher ranks though. We’ll have to see…

The vote kicking system is a struggle right now, this is a issue that unfortunately follows the genre. Some things that would help:

Identifying both the person purposing a vote and the target.
Giving more info about why they are being voted out.
Having a cool down on the player(s) purposing votes (right now you can just spam it).
A rank or reputation system.

From what I've noticed this is most commonly abused in the beginning of the match. I believe its a member of the opposite team joining with an alt account and purposefully destroying vehicles or compositions to set them back and then rejoining the other team and starts spamming the vote kicks. Most players have picked up on this and we don't vote someone out unless we have first hand knowledge of the situation. The above requests would really help with this though.

We had a guy last night spawning at bases and disassembling radios on points being attacked, before killing himself and doing the same thing at other bases. Took a few people noticing before he was finally sent back to the lobby. But not before he got in plenty of counter vote kicks and attempts to muddy the waters. Very annoying to say the least. It also begs the question why we are able to disassemble comps while under attack but yet still can't build? the way it works only benefits people trying to disrupt the game.

I too was on the Official US servers last weekend, mostly NY - Arland Conflict Fri through Sun. It was frustrating to say the least. It's the same trolls doing it over and over again. Once you see their names in the playerlist, you can guarantee it'll be a matter of minutes before everyone gets kicked, then you can't join official for several minutes.

This group is ruining the experience for a broader audience of respectful, mature players. I anticipate they'll be on again this evening to continue their efforts.
