Enable hardware antialiasing
@Geez Tagging you in this as there are numerous reports of the same issue. The only thing I can narrow it down to is having HWAA enabled.
Hello Extricated.
Just like with T172415, we cannot reproduce the issue on our end unfortunately.
@Geez I understand that, but that's not how debugging an issue or fixing a bug works.
I've paid for a game that I'm unable to play, so please provide some actual support on this issue.
Rather than closing the ticket down with "fine on my end", what other information do you need from me to help fix this?
Are your gpu drivers up to date? have you tried different versions if it also occurs on there?
@Geez GPU drivers are up to date; I'm on 551.76 as of yesterday, same issue as when I was on 551.61. It used to (i.e. prior to DayZ 1.24) run fine with no issue on 546.33 and now doesn't. Looking at all the recent bug reports, this is down to something BIS have changed recently.
Which other reports mention the HWAA issue specificaly? As the various client crashes might have different causes (I did notice you commenting on other crash reports, however there was no confirmation the others also occur due to HWAA?)
@Geez They don't, but based on the hours I spent troubleshooting this, I'm absolutely certain my issue, at least, is related to HWAA. For the others, I'm not certain, but the timing of them seems all too coincidental for it not to be something similar.
If you want a video of the game working fine and then crashing the second I enable HWAA, I'm happy to send one over.
Does the game create any mdmp file in the appdata dayz folder when this occurs? Or does it just shut down without any error message?
@Geez There are a few, yes - not one for every crash, but one for every third or fourth.
They're available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ncmNfuCjyLXagEBuu6-Ms3lxwa3s4FNI/view?usp=sharing
If you'd prefer another host or format, just let me know.
Thank you.
We have checked the crash dumps and they point towards the following:
nvwgf2umx.dll!00007ff89689ff54() Unknown
nvwgf2umx.dll!00007ff89689fe03() Unknown nvwgf2umx.dll!00007ff8968dcb5f() Unknown [Frames may be missing, no binary loaded for d3d11.dll] [External Code]
This indicates there is an issue with your nvidia gpu drivers. Either some file is corrupted or the installation is incorrect.
@Geez, this only started occurring when 1.24 released. I've reinstalled my drivers AND Windows - the issue persists.
The issue is with the latest major DayZ update.
We will keep an eye on more reports, however so far we have report just from you from 1.24.
Also as I have mentioned, the crash dumps point towards an issue with nvidia software, nothing we can do on our end with that.
Having looked into this, it seems to be something to do with how DayZ's engine calls the dll - I stand by my statement that the implementation of HWAA is broken on some setups as of 1.24.

According to the devs, this has not been touched for a while, definitely there were no changes in 1.24.
Hello. I have the same problem on 1.24. At first everything was fine, but at some point the game stopped launching, and I reinstalled it several times and cleaned configs. When the game finally started, I tried changing the settings to the ones I had before reinstalling and it crashed again. Directly during the change HWAA to medium. I can set HWAA to low, but as soon as I try to disable HWAA it still crashes. I've never encountered this before.
Through trial and error, I found out that the problem was related to the windowed game mode (previously I always played in fullscreen). Apparently for some reason the screen mode was reset and then when changing the HWAA parameter an error began to occur. I returned Fullscreen and changing HWAA stopped crashing the game. @Extricated, I hope this helps you solve the problem too.

Uninstall the "Nvidia app" if you have it installed. Use "GeForce Experience" until "Nvidia app" is out of beta. I also recommend reinstalling the driver, after uninstalling the "Nvidia app".
