Multiplayer Name Tags sometimes not Showing
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

Sometimes, when playing ARMA Reforger multiplayer games, friendly name tags do not show or display. This sounds like a similar bug within ARMA 3, and very likely still persistent today, possibly due to network de-synchronization.

With the player versus player scenario, players stealing uniforms; this bug is now becoming extremely frustrating, especially after shooting/killing one of your own, due to increased paranoia and increased anxiety. All because the player was new to the game, did not know how to communicate with a radio for confirming his presence as friendly, standing up-right within a base being taken, with no name tag showing and wearing a friendly uniform.

Just a few hours prior to this particular scenario, I witnessed two players at the simulated 3D ~300 feet away, one had a name tag, the other player did not. Finally after both players running towards myself, the second player's name tag finally displayed, while running apparently side-by-side.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Join an official Bohemia multiplayer server
  1. Need many hours of attendance, before both witnessing the name tag bug (likely caused by network de-synchronization or other anomaly) as well as being within a confusing high anxiety pew-pew battle.
  1. Once you cannot readily identify a friendly nearby, usually during a base incursion, whom lacks communication skills and not having a name tag, usually left to a coin toss as to guessing whether they're truly enemy or friendly. Else, only takes a fraction of a second within this Quake like game for the player to pew-pew yourself.
Additional Information

What should happen, especially on official Bohemia servers, some type of name tag should always be showing for friendly troops, mitigating friendly fire incidents as well as distinguishing antagonizing players from friendly players.

Maybe at 300-500 ft, instead of not displaying name tags, display an asterisk above friendly players simply denoting they are friendly but not having a known name due to distance. Usually most people can recognize a person and their associated name up to approximately 300 feet away. I would also say, most can discern whether somebody is friendly or hostile at 500-1000 feet away, give or take a few hundred feet. Regardless, since antagonizing players and hackers are a persistent difficult nuisance, I'd suggest posting something similar to an asterisk character above the player while they are within suitable scope range of fire or at least while they can be considered a threat with any rifle.
