Worse performance after 1.24 update, MSAA related (?)
Awaiting internal Testing, NormalPublic

Description

After the newest 1.24 update I noticed much worse performance when character is near the big forests or dense villages located near forests.
The FPS drops a lot (from stable 120 to 70-90) and that by itself shouldn't be a big problem, but there is a noticeable stutter-like effect? Game should run fine at least down to 60 FPS but with those drops the general feeling is much worse.

I've tried many different settings configurations and it seems that the biggest problem is the Anti-aliasing. I've noticed before 1.24 that it has a huge impact on performance, but it wasn't that bad before. And adding up the rework of collisions for trees and nature in general, I would expect to run it better not worse. And it seems that every other option is less impactful on performance than AA.

I did some testing today on community server which is pure vanilla game, results attached on pictures. All settings set to max (Extreme preset)
Forests with MSAA disabled - 120 FPS and even more (despite the limit).
Forests with 2x MSAA - 115-120 FPS.
Forests with 4x MSAA - 110-120 FPS.
Forests with 8x MSAA - 80-95 FPS with weird stutter effect, sometimes may drop even lower.

When I moved to the city (Severograd) I entered with 4x MSAA and it was dropping near bushes from 120 to 100 FPS. In some interiors it can be even 75-85 FPS.
Setting it lower to 2x MSAA helped a little but still it can drop from 120 FPS to 80 FPS without any serious environmental change around the player (but close to trees, bushes or in some interiors like big garages and halls).

Results in pictures are mostly for 2x/4x MSAA as there was no significant difference between those two. I tried to look in all directions, but it was almost the same.
Turning MSAA off completely gives almost stable 120 FPS, 8x is an overkill no matter if there is forest or no, drops a lot and max FPS is around 100-105.

I can't confirm that this is MSAA related but performance has definitely been worse and there's been a lot more micro-stuttering present since the last update.

@Geez I’m having this same issue, along with massive stuttering.

I also tested on a local LAN server with just me, no mods, and there is a huge drop in performance.

Intel 14900KF CPU, RTX 4090 GBU, 64gb memory.

Ok so after update 1.25 is even worse. There is no difference if I set the preset to Low or Extreme, results are almost identical. For example inside buildings on Livonia FPS jump between 75-90 FPS on both presets.
However, game is running way better, even on Extreme preset with maxed MSAA, when I switch to 1080p. Of course it drops FPS but its possible to get 120 FPS in many scenarios. And that weird feeling of stuttering lag is gone. The drops occur (even to 60-70 from 120) when character is inside buildings. In general, being close to buildings destroy performance a lot, even on 1080p.

I did more testing on my local server since I've managed to update bios on my MOBO (previous version F5 from late 2022, not available to download anymore, current F29).
After doing that, there is a significant difference - FPS are still dropping but the stutter effect in many cases is gone or is much less noticeable. I tried running with MSAA enabled in the same locations near Severograd and performance was slightly better but without stuttering it looks much better.

I also did testing on local server on Livonia and in Topolin it is slightly better, but there is huge FPS drop even to ~50 FPS and that it noticeable.

So upgrading the bios helps, but performance issue in general still persists (mostly for Livonia) - and it was all on local server (hosted and played on the same PC) with 1 player online (me), not on official or community server.

@Geez
No idea if you are aware of this, but AMD mentioned problems with DayZ performance as a known issue. There isnt much details, Im not using AMD myself but maybe it is somehow tied with MSAA or 1440p resolution?

@bingachilling @Nsaggy789 @Geez @slahhieur

Please note that I have a new finding regarding the performance. It turned out that resetting everything in Nvidia control panel to default settings changed performance drastically (I mean general 3d settings, not specific to DayZ).
I was messing with these settings for some time, changed few of them and its much better now, then i've tried to set everything to default and it's still good.

Main difference?
Ugly stuttering when rotating camera with mouse is gone. Game is running smooth even when FPS deep from 120 to 50-60 in locations like Topolin on Livonia on public/official server.
