While running some bullet penetration penetration tests using the diagnostic build and the Projectile Debug mod, I encountered some strange behavior with the fuel doors on several different civilian vehicles in both 1.23 and 1.24 exp.
The fuel doors themselves appear to be almost entirely resistant to bullet damage at the moment.
However, bullets fired into the vehicle when aiming at the area surrounding the fuel door at an angle that one would logically expect to send the bullet through the spot where that particular vehicle's fuel tank would be, appears to damage the fuel tank in a 'normal' manner.
This issue with the fuel doors is a rather minor thing on it's own, but you add in the fact that the fuel tank models on most vehicle models were removed ages ago (I may be misremembering), has created a rather odd situation.
If a player wants to ruin a civilian vehicle by destroying the fuel tank rather than the engine block, the ONE spot they would naturally choose to aim at - the part of the vehicle labeled 'fuel tank' - is currently the worst possible spot to aim at.
This screenshot shows a number of hits to the fuel door, but the only two shots that actually damaged the fuel tank are the ones just below the fuel door, and the one on the top right that angled downward after hitting the fuel door (which is why I described it as 'almost entirely bulletproof'). The chances of a bullet deflecting in just the right way and actually damaging the fuel tank appear to vary depending on the vehicle type, It appeared to happen more often with Lada pictured here, but was far, far less often with the Olga's fuel door from a similar angle/position.
