When this happens, it will have the appearance of an armed plastic explosive. You can drop the item and it will appear as an armed plastic on the ground but no way to dearm unless you use another detonator.

If you log out with this 'armed' plastic in your inventory and then log back in, the attached detonator will drop to the ground and leave working plastic and detonator.
