[Reforger: Bug] Friendly AI won't get out of the way of vehicles.
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

Friendly AI at bases seem to wander about oblivious to the danger of moving vehicles. Even if you use the horn to move them out the way they often run straight back two seconds later and get run over.

Enemy AI actually behave realistically here, as they will always move out of the way of moving vehicles, (and shoot at the obviously).

They need their code updated so they are aware of any vehicle that is being driven and move out the way properly, like enemy AI do.

Hi, could you please provide more data or attach a video?
I am mostly curious if it's about AI walking around or doing smart actions.

US drives at US friendly AI. The AI make no response to the oncoming vehicle and just stand there and get run over.

Russian drives at the same US AI, and they actively avoid being run over (as well as shooting obviously).

The same thing happens at slower speeds in bases, friendly AI pay no attention to maneuvering vehicles, and get damaged/killed in accidents frequently.

Hi, thanks a lot for the videos. Yes, it is known that friendly AI don't avoid friendly cars, it was done so because we didn't want friendly soldiers to give up fighting when a friendly vehicle is driving by. That's also why we added the car horn reaction, so that you can notify friendly AI soldiers yourself and have more control over what's going on.

But I was really curious to see how it looks for you on bases because it might be related to specific compositions, their smart actions, or orientations of player-placed structures. If you come across such a situation, please share a video or screenshot.

Also there might be a solution, we could try to enable vehicle avoidance for friendlies but with priority below priority of fighting. I will try to experiment with this approach.

Hello. Thanks for responding, it's good to see your own design thoughts.

I think you could probably enable vehicle avoidance for friendlies without issues in combat, as the enemy AI manage to avoid being run over in combat (including when deliberately trying to run the down) whilst fighting very well. It's actually a very well developed behaviour. Extending this to friendly AI would probably be very beneficial.

Here's another video I recorded of some random movements amongst friendly AI. Even with the horn being sounded they often just mill about, running in front of or behind moving vehicles randomly, and would frequently be run over.

The horn effect is limited in both time and area of effect as well. If third person views are disabled, it is almost impossible to know if reversing will kill friendlies.

Hello, thank you for the video. It is now clear. We will try to improve it.
