Changes required for the player "vote kick" process to actually work
Feedback, NormalPublic

Description

The player vote kick system is completely ineffective and players who act as trolls take advantage of it hugely disrupting player experience on an everyday basis.

The vote kick system needs serious improvement and rethinking, clearly the current implementation does not work at all - I estimate that at some point 1/4 to 1/3 of all Conflict games are seriously affected by trolls who are taking advantage of this to ruin a game session.

I've been playing Conflict for a year and in that time I've almost never seen the player vote kick system actually succeed in what its meant to do which is to remove highly disruptive players from the match.

Right now, this inability is a well known frustration in the regular Reforger player base and I'm sure its driving many players away from the game. This problem has been mentioned on the Arma Platform discord many times and I've never seen a response from BI explaining how the vote kick system works or what they're doing about it. Honestly, its astounding that this issue does not appear to be taken as seriously as it needs to be by BI, especially as this will be the same issue faced with Arma 4.

Clearly its about achieving a balance between making it too easy and making it too hard to vote kick a player, however, at the moment, its clearly way, WAY too far to the too hard side of the equation.

Most importantly, please increase the priority of addressing this issue. All the other bugs, performance and functionality issues, are understandable, but this issue is the most frustrating player experience issue by far that could surely be easily improved.

Here are the vote kick issues I see:

  1. The minimum threshold number of votes is clearly way too high and needs to be lowered substantially
  2. The vote kick process is an opaque, black box process. Players don't know how the mechanism works. Is it a minimum number of players? A proportion of players? Does it include the enemy team players also? There is nothing in the Field Manual explaining the vote kick process and no hints.
  3. The "hold P" (on PC) message appears to do absolutely nothing which adds to the confusion
  4. The "vote time period" is too short. Players are not going to stop driving or stop in the middle of a battle to vote or to find out more about what is happening
  5. Many players play without a mic and / or don't read the chat messages and / or turn off their radios, so trying to communicate the vote to the whole team is very difficult
  6. Often when a player vote is initiated it can be hard to know how legitimate it is if you've not been directly impacted or are far away from what is happening

Suggestions for improvement:

  1. How the vote mechanism works should be clear to players. For example, create an on screen Hint for vote kicking and document the process in the Field Manual.
  2. The minimum threshold number of votes should be lowered to about 4 for a team of 16. From experience this seems like a reasonable number of vote you could actually expect.
  3. While the opposing team should not be able to initiate a vote on the other team, their players should also be able to vote (their game experience is also being impacted). However, their player numbers should not be included in the mathematical denominator for a proportion calculation
  4. The vote time period should be extended. Also, votes could be accumulative across the session not just in one vote process. E.g. If in kick vote attempt 1 a player recieves 3 votes, then in kick vote attempt 2 those 3 votes should be carried over. This makes votes "persistent".
  5. Experienced players should be given more weighting in the kick vote based on their rank (its also good for there to be actual gameplay benefits of achieving higher ranks). It makes sense that a player that has shown through accumulation of experience points that they are dedicated to the session and that they should have more influence
  6. Show some kind of "vote progress" bar that indicates how many more votes are needed
  7. Kicked players should be black-listed for a period across all servers, as troll players just move onto another server and do the same thing all over again
  8. Have a "career stats" like approach for team-killing and troll behaviour with the number of times they have been subject to a vote and the number of kick votes received over a period of time (e.g. last 30 days) and have them locked out of all servers for an extended period (e.g. 7 days)
  9. Address the XBox "account name change" exploit that allows players to return under different names
