Inertia feedback from a long time player
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

I’ve played this game across PC and Xbox for roughly around 6000 hours. I know it’s not as many as others out there but I’ll continue, since inertia was added to the game it’s killed my enjoyment for it in all honesty. Having to adapt to different inertia values for different servers can be frustrating but I completely understand why the customisability is there… my main complaint would be the fact that the vanilla values are just too strong. Either that or there’s just something off about the whole mechanic, it doesn’t feel fluid and it’s not enjoyable to play. Whilst I agree it was too fast before but the movement in the game felt fluid, now when there’s too much inertia involved the game feels unbelievably stiff. I just hope the overall feeling of it is still being worked on because I like the general idea of the more stuff you carry the stronger the feeling is, my issue lies within the fact all of it just feels stiff and clunky even when you first start out. I hope the overall fluidity of it can be worked on for a smoother experience because right now it feels too heavy. Fluidity in movement would be my overall feedback.

One of the dev streams from last year mentioned an inertia 2.0
I hope this is coming with build 1.21

There are still so many issues across all maps.

The ruin buildings on Livonia have been terrible and make looting not worth the effort.

When you go into the attic spaces with the rafters the player model gets stuck on every single rafter as you try to loot the back corner.

Yeah that’s another annoying thing is getting stuck on a lot of debris but even just running across open space in full sprint it’s literally like turning a truck if you press A/D at all, I don’t want it to be like pre-inertia but currently you move like a tank with literally any side to side movement whilst sprinting

also since 1.20 player models seem to glitch into walls a lot more. I assume this is also inertia related, as early inertia would have you stuck on walls if you ran near them, the velcro walls are still an issue but not as bad as 1.19.

I watched a streamer glitch all over the place being on the cherno apartments balcony because they were behind the balcony door and the ledge.

and another streamer get stuck glitching into a wall fighting zeds in the L shape barracks in the shower room everytime they swung their melee.

To add to this post, is mouse sensitivity tied to your inertia value? Because the two custom servers I play on, ones near vanilla and ones not. The one with inertia at vanilla values has slower sensitivity, the one without is like 10x faster moving my mouse around. I'm not sure if it's possible to even change this but it doesn't make much sense to me the way it currently is

6000 hours and inertia is what bothers you??? What DayZ did you play? Definitely not the one that all other ppl play

Yes correct. There’s not a lot wrong with the game at this point anymore, I just haven’t enjoyed the game since inertia was implemented. I have to spend ages finding a custom server where it doesn’t have the unbearable vanilla values. It’s really just not implemented correctly at the moment. Sure there are still a couple bugs here or there in DayZ but to me this a bug that effects me the entire time I’m sprinting/playing the game. It’s much worse.
