I just tested this again and it still happens.
I also added attachments to the fence posts and even with sheet metal or planks attached I still get a dismantle prompt from the outward facing side of the fence posts

I just tried this on my vanilla server and I did not get the dismantle from the hard side like you do. I tried with a shovel and with a hatchet. Seems to be working fine. Do you have mods?

Nope, I am on vanilla on PC NY5194 and getting this after the 1.19 update and the bug fix yesterday.
I just have the fence posts, nothing on them and when I move the the front I get the dismantle selection with the farming hoe.

I just tested again on Vanilla just to make sure and it is still happening

I just went to another vanilla server on Livonia and got the same thing
Set a fence, built the posts, and was able to dismantle from the front

Sorry I misunderstood "Added logs and built base". I thought you meant you made your wall to make your base. I just retested this and I can dismantle just the the posts from each side with no wall built. I can also bury the posts from each side. The trigger to build is the log itself now, so with no wall blocking it there is nothing to stop you. This is actually an improvement to placing fence kits since it is easier to get the build icon now.

Is that a change, because you used to have to be behind the base to build the posts, and that kind of puts a wrench in base building

Yes it is a change but how does it put a wrench in base building? It is only for making the posts, not building the entire wall. It just lets you place the fence kit and make the posts easier since you can do it from either side. You still need to stand on the inside to build the wall. You cannot dismantle a built wall from the outside.
