[Feature request] Ambient night lighting - Simulating eye nightvision
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

The night in Reforger is very dark right now, making moving and fighting away form lightsources near impossible.

I'd like to propose having at least a basic amount of ambient light at night.

It would be cool if you could use the same functionality as used when entering and exiting building, to adjust this ambient light, simulating the eye getting used to the dark. And maybe even making this adjustment if you have been near or are looking into a light source.

I do not think we need more ambient light everywhere, but a better diffusion on existing lights.

Current street lamps, vehicle or personal lights seem to cut off very fast, there is some transition but it's very short, you get from light into dark almost immediately. It's especially jarring when walking on a town street with street lamps at night. In the gaps between the lamp light cone you character goes completely pitch dark.

That is not how street lamps work

(yes I am aware the game is set in 80's with old types of lights, compared to the picture, but still it's too much)

However forests and generally areas where there are no lights at all are fine being very dark, in my opinion.

It seems the moon light does not work properly at the moment (https://feedback.bistudio.com/T165524) which may also have an effect on the overall feel.

Ray tracing could help here I guess but limiting such important feature based on a technology not everyone can run is probably out of the question.

Yes, eye adaptation during night would be cool. Especially with a use of red flashlights, which shouldn't ruin the eye night vision in opposite to white light.
