No-Log-Off-Zones for Military bases. Worth raising with the devs?
New, NormalPublic

Description

Hey @Geez, I know this might not be meant for the feedback tracker but I don't know where else to put this. Being in a military building (or even just a regular town) and having someone ninja login spawn in your room, killing you, I'm sure, is not what DayZ is meant to offer as an authentic survival experience.

So my suggestion is to simply use the system that is currently in place for toxic zones, that is moving players spawn points to an area outside of the gassed zone.

An alternative solution would be to have a player make some kind of distinct noise upon logging in, thus encouraging players to log off in safer areas.

I do however prefer my original suggestion, as the second might be difficult to communicate towards the large player base.

When players log off in a "no-log-off-zone" and they log back in, the countdown screen could say something like "your position has been slightly moved due to logging off in a landmark"

People spawning in each others faces, no matter who gets the short end, I'm sure you agree, is something that should be avoided as much as possible.
I would very much appreciate if you could raise this with the dev-team, especially because if they decided for it to be a good idea, the implementation, I assume, should be simple as an almost identical system is already in place.

Thank you very much!

The problem could be a player disconnecting during a firefight due to a game crash or connection lost. Imagine being defending your base from raiders and trying to connect back again asap. The game would put you in a different place, further away, so you could go back to your base and kill those raiders from behind. Sadly I think we have to deal with the possibility of a player reconnecting in front or behind us at any moment. We have to be aware all the time of our surroundings.

@ParanoiaLP You make a good point for my suggestion not being a perfect solution. Your example shows, that although unlikely, a player might crash with a certain knowledge and then spawn in a different location, giving them a tactical advantage.

I want to argue though, that my solution is still better than the way the game is functioning in this regard at the moment. While it's true that you could even purposefully teleport out of your base, simply by logging off, people raiding bases could also be surprised by third parties, coming to check out the noise. It is still a more "natural" encounter, to have someone creep up behind you, where this

We have to be aware all the time of our surroundings.

is actually a fair point, than having people literally appear, without any chance on your part to prepare for it.

What would make my solution even better in my opinion, is to increase the log-off time to 2 minutes like it used to be, to prevent combat logging and also forbidding bases in cities. That way we would not have these base building parts clipping through the building geometry, which is both ugly and unimmersive, but also bases would need to be built out and about, as was teased in early screenshots/teasers of the feature. People building forts and such.

I do realise though, that the two things I mentioned are seperate suggestions and although I believe they would compliment this one tremendously, my suggestion stands as is, despite it not being perfect. It's still better.
