Infected Movement (DayZ 1.15)
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

2021 saw infected AI and behaviour improve a great deal, good job guys. There are still a few issues that would like to mention:

  • Clipping - infected will still sometimes clip their faces and/or arms through closed doors and even walls. This also happens with animals (even more so due to their models being wider horizontally). Not only does this look really bad but it is also an exploitable mechanic since players can hit the AI peeping through the door/wall while the AI is prevented from attacking due to the navmesh. This makes it very easy to kill wolves or bears if you can get inside a building and close the door.
  • Collisions - running infected that bump into other infected, animals or other obstacles will sometimes get launched in the air, occasionally ridiculously high. When they land they will keep running..
  • Low obstacles - even though infected can jump over high walls and fences with barbed wire, they are incapable of climbing on top of cars, hesco barriers and other low obstacles. This makes it very easy for players who are aware of this to avoid them and pick them off from safety. Infected should be able to climb on top of any obstacle a player can climb.
  • Vehicles - Infected aggro on idling cars and will often stay glued to it even if a player stands next to them and punch them in the face.
  • Infected jumping through low windows seems to only work sometimes. Might be random or related to the terrain outside the window.

Suggestions:

  • Make infected able to knock doors open if players inside (or outside...) the door are making noise so they zombies stay aggroed on them.
  • Running over infected with vehicles should count as a collision and (slightly) damage the vehicle. Currently too easy to clear an entire town with a sarka..
