Happening since upgrade to 1.12
I can initiate the growth of a new crop even observing it to the point of harvest but have yet to see it mature. Then move away from the vicinity for a while and return to bare soil. Not even plant fibers remain.
I've marked it as 'major' because the new game dynamic is difficult enough to survive without also enduring permanent crop failures.
dig a garden, plant seeds, water seeds, observe initial growth through to maturity, move away from the area for about an hour or so and return to find bare soil.
Same effect if you log out of the game and return.
I observe there are no viable crops in the whole game anywhere, just plots of bare earth. So, I conclude everyone is having this problem.

Currently we are not aware of any bugs with gardening. However, the time until which the plants will spoil has been greatly reduced with the release of 1.12, therefore they may not last as long as they used to. (Please try planting the plants and stay within the area to periodically check on them).
