The cargo slots in a fireplace accept any items, and eventually delete them. As if you threw the item in the fire.
There are not attachment slots for food in a fireplace. If you have 16 stones and make it a stone oven, then you get 3 slots for food or cookware.
When using a normal fireplace, you can only cook food by putting it on a stick.
