DayZ crashes during launch
New, NormalPublic

Description

I have 355 hours of somewhat good gameplay in and shutdown the PC two nights ago just to have the game crash when I booted up the next night. There wasn't anything installed or changed since the night prior and the game just won't launch now. If I launch DayZ through Steam or with DASALauncher, the game will minimize and then go into full screen and lock up the entire PC. I'll need to hard shutdown the PC. I've uninstalled DayZ twice and checked all the drivers and it still happens. I then uninstalled Steam, reinstalled it and DayZ just for it to keep locking up the PC during launch. I figured that I would do a clean install of Windows 10 and see if that helped just to have the game sill not launch. I've searched hours and tried many things prior to the clean install and I don't know what else to do. I'm attaching the files needed to the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION section of this ticket.

Thanks for looking and I look forward to some help.

I have the same problem as you, yesterday I also published a report of the error

Lets hope there's a resolution. I'm baffled.

For what it's worth, I had my kid log into his Steam account and try and launch his DayZ. It crashed too. I was able to launch the game on his PC which is what I thought. I tried reinstalling Steam again and still no luck.

Hey, crash tickets are best made as "private" bug reports, they seem to have higher priority. As for your issue, if the game worked on your PC until recently it can be a variety of things, but here's what I would try first:

  1. Validate game files on steam - and make sure to check ALL the boxes
  2. Delete the DayZ folder inside your Windows - My Documents folder
  3. Ensure that the video card drivers on the PC are updated - or revert the latest change if there was an update recently

If none of that works it can be a hardware issue, such as RAM or GPU being effed. Hopefully they can see something in your crash dumps in that case.

I've tried all of those things, several times. I saw people were having issues with their C++ files so I repaired mine and same thing happened. I removed those files and nothing happened at launch, no black screen or anything, Steam just remained the same. I reinstalled the C++ files and it went back to locking up. I imagine there's something in the crash files that I'm not seeing.
Thanks for trying to help, it's appreciated

Here's an odd twist. The PC that is having this issue is now in my sons possession as I left it. He installed Steam and DayZ on the same PC I had and it runs fine. My new PC is having the same issues. Any help in this madness would be great.

How far do you get in the launch process? I’ve had this happen twice after server crashes or major desync episodes on community servers. What happened was my saved character was corrupted, causing DayZ to crash instantly when trying to join that server.

If you are playing on official servers and your character on the public hive is corrupted that could explain your problem. IF that is the case, The character needs to be deleted from the hive. Easy to confirm though, if the game crashes before you get to pick a server it is not the issue.

The following fixed my problem.

Are you trying to connect to some server directly when launching the game, or do you launch it in to the menu? And could you try possibly logging in to your sons Steam account on your computer, try to launch DayZ and then go back in to your account to see if that has changed anything? If the issue persists even upon doing so, we suggest that you delete the configuration files found in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\DayZ and the appmanifest_221100.acf file from steam, then verify the game data (make sure Steam cloud sync is disabled prior to doing so).

I am new here. first start problems. Maybe i can get some help?! Thx
