DayZ 0.63 Micro Stutter / freezing
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Ever since the update today (0.63.147282) on the experimental branch that enabled Battleye I've been getting micro freezing/stutter every second while in-game on a server. I can not see my fps fluctuate at all between these freezes, and I do not notice any spikes or drops in CPU/RAM/HDD usage during it when looking in task manager. However, starting the game in offline mode I do not get these stutters.
The RPT log is filled with "[TEST]: session terminated", which lead me to believe a program was interfering with Battleye. Firstly, I ran MalwareBytes to make sure I wasn't infected by anything, secondly I closed down all programs I had running except steam. But the micro freezing was still there.
I downgraded my game back to 0.62 to see if I had the same issue there, which I didn't. I'm therefor reporting this issue and hope it gets resolved soon!

Seen others with the same issue, all saying it started with the update and is only present on 0.63

I didn't have the stuttering / freezing on my computer normally, but I was able to reproduce it myself.

My computer:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K Processor
  • RAM: Corsair 16 GB 3200MHz DDR4
  • GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB STRIX
  • Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z370-A (Latest BIOS)

Looking into my RPT-files I found that it was spamming "[TEST]: session terminated", very frequently. Meaning 140-150 lines per second, which isn't very much on a SSD. But it could be very straining on a regular HDD depending on its health. So I decided to symlink my "%localappdata%\DayZ" (with mklink /D) onto my regular HDD which isn't super fast.
After doing that I immediately got micro stuttering/freezing when joining a server on 0.63 with battleye, nothing when playing offline. But the constant writing is definitely the reason for the game stuttering.

My brother solved his stuttering issue with the same method since his C:\ drive was on a slower HDD than his other drive. It worked for him, so it might work for others as well.
So for those who has this issue, a temporary fix would be to symlink your DayZ logging folder away from C:\ onto another drive.

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  2. Create a folder on another drive (NOT on C:, and not just another partition from same HDD) where you want it to put all files instead. You can name it whatever you want.
  3. Go to "%localappdata%" and rename "DayZ" to something else, like "DayZ-Backup".
  4. Inside your command prompt, type the following: mklink /D "%localappdata%\DayZ" "PATH TO YOUR NEW FOLDER"

Example: mklink /D "%localappdata%\DayZ" "D:\DayZlogs"

Now looking in %localappdata% you should see a new DayZ folder, but it should have a shortcut icon on it instead.
And if you want to undo this, you can just go into "%localappdata%" and delete the folder named "DayZ" if it has the shortcut icon on it.

The problem still persists, even after the last experimental update. While 27th stress test didn't have stutter, updated experimental version still keeps freezing.

Do you have SSD? If you do, download the game on the SSD and see if that fixes it.

If it doesn't, there was a certain program my friend downloaded that fixed his stuttering problem in DayZ and PUBG, but I forgot it's name. I'll ask him when he comes online.

I'm experiencing the same stuttering on a basic HDD.

Issue is still present in my case, fix above doesn't help.
I run te game at 60~ fps but stuttering that occurs after 15minutes~ of playing especially in the city makes the game unplayable.
My pc is pretty old but I had no issue like this in .62
intel core i3 3220
gtx 660 2gb vram
8gb ram
Game is also installed on a ssd

Hello Damonster.
Can you try to uninstall your GPU drivers and then do a clean installation of the latest version and let us know if that has improved/resolved the issue?
Regards,
Geez

I just installed new drivers and I am not 100% sure but I think that might helped. No suttering so far, played for almost an hour.My drivers where couple months old so that could be it.Will provide more info later this week.Thank you :)
