The current vehicle/object hit-decal system in ArmA 3 could use some polishing before/with release of Tanks DLC.
There is no variation in effect style, it is all a faded blob. We are on the brink of seeing more vehicular combat in ArmA, and as such I think it is important to have good visual feedback to the effectiveness of your anti-armor weapons.
I suggest the following be considered:
- Higher quality armor penetrating hit decals (with bump-mapping for sense of depth).
- Higher quality armor non-penetrating hit decals (also bump-mapping).
- New explosive impact hit decals for all objects/vehicles (burnt/soot effect).
4. If HEAT ammunition is implemented with Tanks DLC, a custom HEAT impact effect (hole with fragments scattered around it)
In general, tanks have a low fire-rate and produce a lot less decals for the engine to worry about, so bringing up the decal limit, lifetime and quality should hopefully not impact performance greatly.
