dayz won't start since last update
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I haven't been able to play since last update ( dec 23rd ? )
I have this bizarre problem where the first time I try to start dayz it gives this error :

Dayz.exe invalid installation copy
Exception Processing Message 0xc000007b Parameters
0x000007FEFCC2819C 0x000007FEFCC2819C
0x000007FEFCC2819C 0x000007FEFCC2819C

and it just quits on me. If I relaunch it after that I'll get a different error message :

DayZ.exe invalid installation copy
c:\windows\system32\XAPOFX1_5.dll is not suitable for windows
try to reinstall from original media if problem persists contact system administrator...

extra info :

tried deleting and reinstalling dayz, didn't work
tried running from steamfolder as admin, didn't work
deleted XAPOFX1_5.dll and replaced it with XAPOFX1_5.dll
that I downloaded from somewhere ( I know, I know ) didn't work
don't know what to try next ...
I've played dayz for over 3600 hrs without any major problems,
I would really like to play some more.

Hellodavedenbeef and thank you for the report.
Can you try to navigate into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\Jun2010_XAudio_x86.cab\ and try to copy the XAPOFX1_5.dll from there and replace the c:\windows\system32\XAPOFX1_5.dll and let us know if that has changed anything about the behaviour of the issue?
Regards,
Geez

Hello,
I followed your instructions but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue,
nothing new going on with the error messages. I find it odd that upon
fresh start ( i.e. after every reboot of the system ) it always gives the
0x000007FEFCC2819C message first, then if you try and launch dayz a 2nd
(or 3rd or 4th) time it keeps coming up with c:\windows\system32\XAPOFX1_5.dll
message ?

Hello davedenbeef.
Can you try to uninstall all versions of directx on your computer and do a clean install and let us know if there is any difference? Before you do so, can you also check if any .mdmp files are being created in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\DayZ per each error?
Regards,
Geez

hello Geez,

I checked for .mdmp files and found some, the last .mdmp is dated 13 dec 2016, I don't think 0.61 was
on stable then ...
I seem to be unable to locate (any) directx folder on my system, where do I look ?

Hello davenbeef.
It appears that the directx cannot be uninstalled without rolling the system back or modifying the windows registry. Can you try to reinstall your windows and let us know if the issue persists even upon doing so?
Regards,
Geez

Hello Geez,

reinstalling windows is unfortunately not an option.
Any alternative solutions ?

cheers

Hello guys,
copy the file XAPOFX1_5.dll

  • from Jun2010_XAudio_x86.cab to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
  • from Jun2010_XAudio_x64.cab to C:\Windows\System32\

Don't let Windows to fools you. If 32-bit game says it's loading something from 'C:\Windows\System32' it is most likely loading it in 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64' (system silently redirects the file path), so the paths above are really correct.
Btw: I'd recommend you to use Windows Explorer to do this, as other tools might run into the same issue with folder re-direction.

Hey Geez & BISWizard

I copied both files to their respective folders and ... it worked !!!
just played my first 15 minutes of 0.61 and now I have to go to work.
I think I'll call in sick today.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated, keep up the good work,
in a word : respect .
