Arma3battleye.exe message - The extended attributes are inconsistent
New, NormalPublic

Description

Todays arma3battleye.exe update broke my battleye. I can run arma 3 with battleye switched to off in the launcher, but when I have it switch to on. I get this message and arma3 fails to load.

I am not sure if it is part of a uninstall/reinstall battleye script working in the background. I have verified data. I have deleted BE32.exe and BE64.exe from the BE folder and re-verified and re-download them through steam. It still fails to load arma 3 and stops with this message.

I have tested the dev 64 build. It was not present and arma 3 worked great. I have rolled back to the 32 stable branch and the problem is back.

-> new info

I suspect the battleye installer is failing. I just went on to my old C drive and tried to uninstall a battleye version from a very old arma 2 free game. The process was exactly the same.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3206632) - Error 0x8e5e03fe
win 10 update ^^ fails

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.233.2306.0)
and this ^^ is part of the update

Windows Defender now has Definition 1.233.2306.0 I did this in Windows Defender updater

this win update is nerfed for me tried 10+ times now

-> new info

I have fixed the windows update, not related. The last BE update broke it and my only way to play the stable build is with BE disabled.

Guess I will have join the dev build testing servers for a while as the don't have a BE x64 yet. Out of ideas.

-> new info

I have gone back to the Dev build and battleye also fails on this x64 build where previous test worked with BE. I can run arma fine with BE disabled. So now its broken on both builds

The battleye Launcher seams to be at fault - installing battleye - failed to install

This problem is present in the transition and 1.66 Release DEV versions.
When you are changing the version Arma3, steps to fix:

  • To close in the Task Manager process BattlEye
  • In the C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Common Files \ delete the entire folder BattlEye
  • In the C: \ Users \ Username \ AppData \ Local folder to delete all BattlEye
  • Restart PC
  • In D: \ Program files \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Arma 3 start arma3battleye file

thx LEX I have just deleted every battleye folder that I can find including the current arma 3 one. The arma3battleye.exe fails in the same way. Behind the failed message window is the battleye launcher window reporting

This may sound crazy and cheeky but all the official combat patrol server have BE enabled. What if one had BE disabled? would you learn anything?

or would I be able to run the previous battleye version that was working. To sanity test that current battleye version may be at fault

No need to remove BattlEye folder - from the root folder Arma3 games.

Sorry, I forgot to write the item "Restart the PC." I change the order in installs procedure.

O.k. here is what i did to fix it

Grrrr...

format C
install licenced win 8.1
upgrade to win 10
update win 10

test of battleye still failed at this stage. the warning message had gone, but the battleye message log in the launcher reported the same that it failed to install the service

i was still on the dev build at time of the test

Grrrr .....

install steam again
install arma 3
verify arma 3

the test worked and battleye succefully installed, the battleye message log reported this

this test was with all launcher params at the default (off or not selected)
the final test will be load my profile and usual param settings in the launcher

plz Be careful with 64bit stuff.
plz Check what windows updates are being released in the same time scale

it least i have a very stable PC again so its not all bad. I wont be testing the dev build for a few days so dont brake stuff till i get there
