08/12/2016 hotix update broke BattlEye Launcher
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

After today's hotfix whenever I start Arma 3 from the Launcher I get the error message BattlEye Launcher stopped working. Other people having the game have exact the same issue.

The game still runs as normal but now I am not sure if BattlEye is running for me and if I can join servers running BattlEye.

Verifying game cache does not fix the issue.

After joining a server running BattlEye I do see the message saying BattlEye client initialized and the one about the BattlEye GUID, but do not get the message whether BattlEye is up-to-date or not. That does mean BattlEye is running for me, is it?

Same thing happened to me and a friend. Tried restart computer, steam-- deleted arma3battleye.exe and redownloaded using steam verify integrity -- issue persists.
I narrowed down the issue to Mods (at least for me)
Launching the game using No Mods works fine can play on servers as usual.
However, launching using CUP - Units or TRYK (more mods are probably effected but these were the only ones I used that had the issue) my launcher stops responding and stuck on loading screen when I join servers.
Deleted + re-downloaded all mods didn't work.
Status logs are the same with and without crash--

Arma 3 Launcher Battleye status logs:
12/8/2016 2:48:12 PM - Starting BattlEye Service...
12/8/2016 2:48:14 PM - Updating BattlEye Service...
12/8/2016 2:48:15 PM - Launching the game...

I can confirm this issue may be related to mods. Used Vanilla preset and no issues.

I can confirm this issue too. But i have no error messages. The game won't start via launcher

Hello,
could you please go to BattlEye page in Arma 3 Launcher and disable to check to disable the BattlEye.

If I'm not mistaken, the BattlEye itself got updated yesterday as well, so it might be related. We're in touch with BattlEye developers and we will update the issue one we'll have more info.

I'm at the same point the other posters are in the process.

When battleye is disabled via launcher, or if I launch from the exe directly, Arma launches just fine. Of course, sans battleye.

When Batteye is enabled, the launcher tries to launch arma3battleye.exe, which attempts to execute, fails silently, and then the launcher pops back up due to the minimize launcher after game start action.

I've manually updated my BE files via battleye's website. This also did not solve the problem.

If it helps at all, I may have had this exact issue with DayZ on the EXP branch before I got frustrated and uninstalled the game rather than tinker with it. Not an option for A3 though. lol.

Edit: I'd consider this issue much worse than trivial, btw. I'm not able to play multiplayer at all, atm.

This is the error I get running the exe directly. Not sure what it's actually supposed to do though.

No other error files are generated.

No errors reported on the BE tab in launcher.

I've also tried reinstalling everything in the "_CommonRedist" file. No go.

Hi,
if i disable Battleye in the launcher, the game will start.
I closed the game und enable Battleye again, the game won't start.

And here's the launcher log, for completeness. (Or really, I just remembered it.)

I am not sure if this is related to this issue but after the hotfix I have noticed that in the Launcher, in the Mods section, there is an orange star behind the preset name to indicate it is not saved yet. This started happening AFTER the hotfix was applied and I made a few changes to a preset.

After saving the preset, when I close down the Launcher and restart it the preset still appears as unsaved.

Merely mentioning this because it may be related since my issue relates to mods, and presets seem to be marked as unsaved now.

Note that the game will receive a rollback update later today, but since the latest BE update contains important security improvements we need to fix this issue for a future update and therefore need help from affected users.

hi, i just sent an email to support@battleye.com referencing this discussion. hope it helps, cant wait to play multiplayer again hehe.

Rollback has been released, but we'd still appreciate your assistance.

Hello celticalliance,
Arma 3 Launcher didn't changed at all in the 1.66 hotfix, it's probably mere coincidence. The issue you describe has been recently reported and is tracked in this ticket: https://feedback.bistudio.com/T121847 .

FYI, the issue with mods has been identified internally now.

This is the error I get running the exe directly. Not sure what it's actually supposed to do though.

No other error files are generated.

No errors reported on the BE tab in launcher.

I've also tried reinstalling everything in the "_CommonRedist" file. No go.

Could you please contact us at support@battleye.com for further analysis? You seem to have a different issue than the others here (mod-related), especially because you experience the same on DayZ Experimental. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, I'm not home anymore to help set this up. I won't be home until 3 EST. Not sure if that's too late for you though. I'll also be home all day tomorrow if you'll be in the office. I can't access email here, but I can take care of that later as well. In the mean time, you could add me on steam (which would be easier either way) http://steamcommunity.com/id/thecapulet

That's no problem, just contact us when you are available (weekends are mostly ok too :)).

Note that your game should update and work again when you come back, but we'd still like to find out what's wrong for you with the latest BE versions.

The Rollback works, the game starts :-)
@ Sable I'll write you an email via support@battleye.com
