Spraypainting 75rd Drum Magazine caused character inventory loss
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

  • Attempted to spraypaint a 75rd Drum Magazine with a Green Spraypaint while it was attached to AKM.
    • AKM was slung on back, not in hands.
  • Drum magazine disappeared from UI, no space for it to go into inventory, was not on ground.
    • Right-click options on AKM showed "empty" option, as if removing the magazine was still an option.
  • Dragged and dropped a second 75rd Drum Magazine from Plate Carrier to AKM, with no obvious result.
  • Logged out and back in to same server.
  • Upon loading back in, character inventory was completely missing, except for AKM with no attachments. Character was still alive, with same health status, in same spot.
  • Tried switching to a different server on the same (public) hive. No change.
  • Tried switching back to the first server where bug occured. No change.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Have AKM with Green Rail Foregrip, Black Polymer Stock, PSO-1-1 Scope, Suppressor East, 75rd Drum Magazine (containing 75 rounds)
  2. With AKM slung on back (not in hands) Attempt to apply Green Spraypaint to attached Drum Magazine (unpainted), with insufficient space for magazine in inventory. Attached magazine should disappear from UI at this step.
  3. Try to drag and drop second, fully loaded, 75rd Drum Magazine (unpainted) on to afflicted AKM.
  4. Relog to same server, inventory may be gone at this point
  5. Attempt to reproduce, skipping step 3.
Additional Information

I will attempt to reproduce if I can recreate the same setup. Due to scarcity of items involved it will likely prove impractical.

Hello ThirtyWorse.
Have you also painted the handguard prior to the issue occurring? As we could not reproduce the issue you are describing by following your reproduction steps, however we are aware that such issue occurs when people attempt to repaint the handguard.
Regards,
Geez

Yes. The handguard was already painted green prior to painting the drum mag. The handguard was removed to inventory when the paint action was performed on it.

I was thinking that the glitch was related to the drum mag having no place to go into inventory.

The character is still logged off on the 3pp hive. Will looking at it help?

Hello ThirtyWorse and thank you for the swift response.
The issue with the items disappearing when manipulating with handguards is already scheduled for a fix and updates are being posted under the primary ticket - https://feedback.bistudio.com/T118081. However, I am going to keep this ticket open to track the issue with disappearing magazine, which we have confirmed and it has been scheduled for a fix as well.
Regards,
Geez

I understand, so by the action of painting the handguard which automatically removed it from the rifle, when I dragged the newly painted handguard to the AKM it invoked the T118081 bug.

I will attempt to reproduce the disappearing magazine separately, but it's likely that it disappearing was only tangental to the invocation of T118081. That would make this most likely just a duplicate of it.

Me and my friends were at myshkino tents when he found green spraypaint. He used it to spray his m4, not the handguard, just the m4. The mag dissapeard, instantly, he relogged, mag still gone. I know it is kind off useless information as I cannot provide anymore info, just wanted to let you know there is something wrong with spraypainting.

If it works like: replace m4 with green m4, maybe it doesn't correctly check mag, if not that. I have no clue.

Hello MrKirby and thank you for the information.
We are aware of the issue with disappearing magazines that are attached to a weapon that has been spraypainted and you can follow the primary ticket for updates here: https://feedback.bistudio.com/T119428.
