switching between output devices cuts off sound permanently until restart (asus xonar u7)

Description

i have this persistent issue where when i start my game either with headphones or speakers i have a sound as long as i don't switch between them (output devices), which i can via click of a button on my xonar u7.

it seems as the sound-engine crashes permanently whenever i switch the output devices.

Additional Information
  • i use the asus xonar u7 along with their latest drivers and software
  • DayZ is the only game i can think of where this actually happens

Do the speakers/headphones you are using use SPDIF ,USB or 3,5mm jack?

PC via USB2.0 to ASUS XONAR and from there via 3.5mm jack to headphones /via RCA jacks to speakers.
The Xonar has a "hard" switch between both output devices. (no software switch!)
This means i can hear via speakers OR headphones. If I would want to switch between these devices I'd need to press a physical switch button.
