Get a barrel and store clothes in it (hats and masks are the best to use as an example). Get that piece damp. Put in on your character. Observe as all of your items get damp as well (vest, pants, boots).

It is silly - you have put only a damp face mask or gloves or a hat and all your stuff gets damp immediately.
