the space needed for a telescopic baton remains in its extended state even when when retracted.
the whole purpose of this feature imo is to need less space in your inventory, i suppose.

  • go to inventory
  • place extended baton somewhere in your inventory
  • right click - retract
  • space needed remains unchanged, although object changes state
