0.51 Stable Branch Duplication Exploit
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

Hello, just to preface this I want to say recently I have been following a hacking forum (I dont hack) so that I could be proactive in reporting new gear duplication exploits that people find and share there. Recently they have found one and I would like to share it here in hopes of it getting fixed.

I have not personally tried this but there is a forum thread where people are confirming this method works, here it is:

"Here is a SIMPLE explanation for those still struggling.

Player 1 - serer admin and guy with gear
Player 2 - No gear

Player 1 has the gear and drops it on floor..
Player 2 picks up gear FAST and logs out
Player 1 stays in server and restarts

Player 2 has the gear because he logged out and updated BI servers
Player 1 gets rolled back 30 seconds or so from the server restart - to the point before he gave the gear away"

Have a read at 08 week december status report. At least that will cheer you up...

I have observed/tested a similar variant of this, since Stable 0.51 - The difference is simply putting the items down with a subsequent sever restart shortly afterwards. Depending on the timing of the restart (a difference of seconds): none, some, or all of the items dropped will be duplicated. It may also result in items disappearing completely, from the floor and the character. I also notice that the entire server's persistence is reset/crashed after performing this multiple times, perhaps attributed to an issue with abnormal rare loot saturation (wild guess).
