Game crashes every 15-20 minutes.
There are frequent and rapid fps drops while playing, but sometimes the game freezes and sound stops playing. after a couple of seconds sound comes back but game remains frozen. Then I get a black screen with a "dayz has stopped working" message, which I have to alt+tab then enter to close.
This has happened at many different locations while having different stuff in inventory and doing various things, though most of the times it has happened while I was just running around (in wilderness more often than in towns).
This crash has been happening with earlier versions of the game as well.

please let me assure you that we are looking into this, however issues such as this one can be very specific and hard to reproduce (and thus analyse) on our end.
I assume you have already tried reinstalling the game, verifying the data (rightlick on DayZ in Steam library, Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Cahce) and updating all your drivers. If not, please do so.

It's still happening. though it might happen once in a hour or so. Out of nowhere the game freezes and sound stops, after a couple of seconds the sound comes back (the ambient sounds only, I think), then I get an error that dayz has stopped working.
I uploaded the .rtp file... in case it helps in any way.
