@Rickschaves
that link is gold. devs need to take note, i do think some of the things in it need tweaking still such as the sound of distant fire, however all other things were amazing like receiving rounds is amazing, the echo, and extra points for the reverb underneath the tin roof actually sounds like your there. this is how i want my Arma3 to sound!

when i play i hear bullets cracking in far away places and think im under fire, cant tell what direction even in the slightest and usually takes me a while to realize that the bullets flew by about 100m away and not even directed at me.. this needs to be fixed, video game situational awareness is hard enough as it is!
and i am not convinced that anything is a recorded sound, to me it sounds generated on all samples. seems its lacking behind all other games on the market and even old games. and i agree about the quad bike they just roll up on you and u don't even know till 20m

not that there much difference even if they wear hearing protection, there's a microphone on the outside of them that plays back at lower volume on the inside of hearing protection.. the only change in sound is it has 0 bass so it usually sounds like ur inside a empty can(this i don't think could even be simulated because of the various quality of peoples personal sound setup at their computers) i think it would be pointless trying and adds nothing of note.
i own a set of hearing protection for when i shoot, this is how i know. perhaps if it was a real issue for people, like how it changes underwater maybe lower the bass for when characters wear hearing protection.. but again i don't think its worth the effort

when i hear my character groaning in pain i yell at my computer "BE A MAN, YOUR A TRAINED SOLDIER FOR PETE SAKE" and its even worse that it continues even at 99% health.. iv seen people break bones in real life(including myself)and not moan in pain, seems like the direction of modern day soldiers who have gone under months of training of pain endurance turns them into pussies.. or maybe that's just the alpha :) it should only make sounds when mortally wounded(20% health) or something, not after falling 1m from a ledge.. i feel my post is veering off topic but it was in response to the sound immersion gotmikl spoke of ;) however i totally agree with the rest of his post, and i choose sound over graphics any day.

Fireball i was talking about Arma2 samples(and also Arma3), and i do recognize the difference in A3A. personally im not impressed at all, i would probably give Arma2 a 2 out of 10 for sound and A3A a 4 out of 10, the only thing iv enjoyed with the sound so far is how it changes underwater which is awesome. however i can pretty easily immerse into other games but not any of the Arma's yet. and Arma3 is my favorite right now so i really hope that changes :|

i don't mean to sound like an ass but i personally believe that counter-strike 1.6 has better samples than both Arma2 and Arma 3 alpha.. and thats 13 years old now, i also think that sound is far overlooked in games most of the time, and would definitely be high on the list of priorities if i was responsible for it. however considering how bad i think it is, it would make me believe that it surely is just a placeholder until actual realistic samples and also positioning is properly developed.(i don't mean to offend any Arma2 fans about its quality)

i played those uncompressed youtube sound videos(the apc range) and then opened arma3 and played, it was awesome, i felt like i was there man! lol. eventually the video ended so i was just listening to arma3 normal sounds again and all of a sudden my erection went soft and eyes went narrow.

here's another example of real world sounds but bare in mind that any video or recording of sound is hard to duplicate as distortion, vibration(obviously), echo doesn't record very well or at all in most cases:

i used to play project reality a bf2 mod(old as) and even now its sound far exceeds most games of today and the graphics are so bad but still immerses you very well. i think sound is always overlooked as such a powerful thing for games
here's a sound recording trip that project reality did, i think this is the best example to date of how things need to sound(the second video is fantastic, if u have a good sound system you might really appreciate this with volume high and imagine your playing Arma3)

Vehicle sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAkqcT2bqcI
APC firing range: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibvtA0CXc_U
Tank firing 1km away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ88c9pWjKU

i believe that with the fantastic visuals of Arma3 and if it had sound like in these uncompressed videos it would be the most immersive and exciting game i could probably imagine, as sound is my only and big disappointment of this game so far.
