hm, i did not think about that, but you're right, that makes sense.
About the effect of giving the pills to somebody: As far as I know nothing happened, but I gave the pills named player just to try out, if you can give somebody the pills, not for the effect they would have. Also the player who was given the pills wasn't sick or extremly hungry / thirsty.
