This bug is often reproduced.
Server: version 0.45, experimental, herdcore.

Confirmed in Ver"0.45.124299" Hardcore, after lost session and recon to the same server. Clone means in this case an exact copy of charactermodel clothing and items. Killing the clone had no impact on the safety of the original ;-).

Unfortunately, this problem regarding duplication of characters is a known issue that has previously been reported.
