Unable to launch game from stream or trough local files

Description

I tried to launch the game trough steam first but wasn't able. Just gave me unable to launch game. Then I tried to launch the game trough the local files as an administrator but no luck. Just gives me unable to find running instance of steam. I then verified the local files but nothing, they were all fine according to steam. Then tried deleting appcache couple of times, with and without restarting steam and/or PC. Did nothing. Then flushed steam and again nothing. Then I tried changing the api file, again verified so Steam reloaded it. Didn't help either.

If there is a fix please let me know and I will upload any needed attachments or update with info if there is need for it.

Hi,

are you certain you are running Steam "As Administrator"?

Yes, and it does nothing, the launching problem persists.

can you please upload a DxDiag report from your computer?

Also, have you tried launching DayZ directly from the Steam client? Is DayZ the only game that is showing this behaviour?

Ok, now I feel really stupid. It was a compatibility problem with Zone Alarm. When I turned off Zone Alarm before the launch of Steam I was able to launch the game. It seems this is a problem with Arma 2 also, so there might be something there. IT didn't help that I approved connections trough Zone Alarm for the games but I had to close Zone Alarm and use Comodo instead.

So this issue is sorted, except the game seems to not work with ZA and neither seems Arma 2. Both trough steam except Arma 2 I was able to launch trough local files successfully.

This issue for me can be noted as solved.

Hi,

yes, Zone Alarm is known to cause problems with our games. There is unfortunately nothing we can do from our end. It will be necessary to exit Zone Alarm before playing.
