As of now zombies are quite dumb, I know they've got eagle eyes and go trough walls, but for me they don't really represent as much threat as other players do. So why not let users play as zombies too if they choose to, let them have hunger which can only be replenished by eating other players, imagine 100 players servers with zombie teams hunting for survivors, now that would be awesome.

why people so afraid of new things
or how would it be to have a 1/100 chance to spawn as soldier fully equipped
or medic (with lots of drugs an so on)

also we need more tents all over the map, so the people dont need to go to some airstrips 20000km far away etc

there was a custom mod of dayz, in which when you died from zombies you then spawned back in as a zombie and could run around chasing players and attracting zombies, cant remember what version it was but to be honest i think something like that will be left to community modding after release reaches us, the team really need to work on the core ideas of the game and get it to a release state. it is a good idea though as it has been implemented as mentioned, but was never taken up in the official mod.
