Game freezes on start menu
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Whenever I'm on the start menu of the game and I click "Play" or "Change server" my game freezes, and I can't do anything anymore. I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and close the game.

When I got the game I downloaded it trough steam and just changed my username from "LENOVO-G700" (the current one) to "Dylae", I changed my graphics because I knew that my PC couldn't handle the default ones. And changed my default character.

I already try'd restarting my PC, reinstalling the game and veryfied the game data.
What do I do? Please help. {F30752} {F30753}

Hello,

Please let us know in the note section if you are still able to reproduce this issue on the latest Development build.

If so, please send us a dxdiag report and files from this folder: "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"

If the *.rar is smaller than 5.000KB, you can attach it here.
In case it's larger than that, please try uploading it to a file sharing website and link it here.

For future reports please refer to the "How to guide" http://feedback.dayzgame.com/how-to-user.html

Thank you.

@Kira I'm sorry, but what is a DxDiag report?

  1. Open the menu bar and press Search
  2. Type dxdiag into the search bar and select the program called dxdiag from the list of programs that is shown.
  3. Another window should appear titled DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Near the bottom of the window click on “Save All Information…” A popup should appear with a progress bar, this may take a few minutes.
  4. After it completes a dialog should appear asking you where to save the file.
  5. Save the file and upload it here

DxDiag is located in %SystemRoot%\System32

run the .exe and safe all the information, upload it, done.

Dylae if you still have the problem try changing:
-maxMem=8192 to -maxMem=8072
also double check that your -maxVram is really 2GB and not only 1GB.
Because GeForce GT 720M might only have 1024 of vram.
I dont know if either of these could cause your problem.

I find that the game freezes for 5-10 seconds when it first loads up and the "I Understand" button is there, then when I click it and get to the main menu I get a 5-10 second freeze again. Is Generally okay after that though.

@DelayedReaction no when I click on "play" or "change server" it freezes and I need to force close it.

dylae added a comment.May 8 2014, 8:52 PM

@Phyma my Vram is 1792 MB if i'm correct and is the -maxMem a option on DayZ or for my PC?

Because if i check it seems that you have launch parameters when you play dayz is that correct?

If you are, then remove the launch parameters and just run the game as it is and see if that helps.

@Phyma I don't have any lauch parameters, so I still don't know the problem :P and my normal RAM is 8GB

Hey,

Thanks for the report and the files. We will look into the issue as soon as possible. Please keep testing the game and watch this issue.

Thank you!

Known issue, I have already reported this. I also have a solution for your freeze. The freeze always happens after you update the game :(

@_M4Z_TeR lol we already had a large convorsation on your post, remember?

@dylae oh yeah, I didn`t recognize your name. And I don`t know about you, but I got this problem fixed like this:

  1. I go to the video settings and to the page where you can change the resolution and the size of the screen.
  2. Change them to whatever you want, because you can change them back to normal after all this.
  3. Exit until the game asks you to restart and hit the restart button.
  4. Let the game restart and do what it does normally.
  5. Test the server browser and see if it freezes.
  6. If it doesn`t, change the video settings back how you want them to be. If it will freeze, well, I can not help you then.

I have completely no idea what is causing the freeze and why it is happening after every patch, even if you do the steps I have told.

@_M4Z_TeR_ Nope. didn't work :P
And also I have GameTracker on my PC (if you don't know what it is you probaly can't help me but i'll explain as best as I can) GameTracker normally indicates if im in game, like when I start Arma II it makes a sound, but when you quit the game it makes a different sound.
Whenever I lauch DayZ I hear the sound of the game starting up, and still on the black loading screen I already hear the sound as if the game quit.

I think whenever I launch DayZ it won't be able to connect to the internet. So my GameTracker thinks I quit DayZ because it didn't connect to the GameTracker servers...

Well, try this:

  1. Delete DayZ.exe from the firewall BEFORE starting up the game
  2. Don't start GameTracker and let the game start without it.
  3. Once everything is loaded, hit ALT+SPLASH to go back to desktop (or just hit CONTROL+ALT+DEL or the Windows -key)
  4. You (idk what is wrong if you don't) should see a new window that says if you want to allow DayZ.exe to go trough the firewall. Check the both private and public thingies.
  5. Go back to the game and do the video settings -thingy I told you earlier but to make sure everything is going as planned, I'll tell it again:

(1. Go to Configure/video/user interface and there change the resolution to whatever you want it to be and set the size to be smaller or bigger than it was before and then quit the settings -menu until it asks you to restart the game.

  1. Hit the restart button and after it loads the incredibly long loading-screen, the server browser should work fine. Once this is done, change the settings back how they were or leave it like that, it`s your choice.)
  1. Do the same thing again with GameTracker
