Hi,

we were unable to reproduce the issue. Can you please try this again on the latest experimental branch?

Thank you!

This does make sense to me ( for the following reason )

  • start PC with standard windows account
  • start Steam with any user ID
  • start DayZ
  • Username ingame is that of Windows User, not Steam user
  • Game/settings files are located in My Documents ( Windows folder )
  • DayZ doesn't check for Steam ID, but only files in My Documents - which is computer owner...

New PC = Character reset -.-
Uncool

After this post, i made a private post.
Support: Please check and read it. Importend!!!!!

Hey,
i tested one thing yesterday.
Buy a new PC, install steam, connect me with my steam account, open DayZ and my character was reset (see post before). Note: I do not connect me on a server. I look my char in the preview-vision and check all settings. The settings were made for a laptop, so for example 100% screen was not 1920*1080, it was made for a laptop-screen. I was unable to set the default an a 24' Screen.
I closed DayZ, go on my laptop, copy all files from my documents on a USB-Stick, go on my new pc, copy those files in my documents > DayZ, delete "dayz.cfg", start dayz and wolla, my char was there, settings to default for my new screen. Connect on a Server: All fine.
If i look in the files in my document i see terms like "Item23", "Item24"...

So, is this the way to backup my Char? Is there no check in the cloud, where my Char should be? If my char-files are locate on my pc its easy to backup and manipulate the files => HEAVY Cheat.

Please check it!

Why isn't DayZ saving to Steam? That is the great thing about Steam, that you can play any game (in Steam) on any computer and still have the same progress you made at home.

They don't have steam cloud compatibility yet.

Hey folks,

to clear something up. None of the information about your in-game character is stored locally on your computers. The files that are there only pertain to your game settings and the character that is on the main menu screen.

All the actual character files are stored in our own "cloud" database. You download these files upon joining a server.

That is the answer to nerobp's concerns. Because you loaded the game on a new computer, your character was not present on the main menu screen. Once you join a server you will download the same files that you carried over on your USB stick and the character will be there afterwards. You don't have to worry about altering the files as the files that are on your computer do not affect the in-game character in any way whatsoever.

Essentially the main menu screen shows the character that was player last. This is working as intended. If you need to change the in-game name, you can do so in the main menu as well. It will have no effect on what character is loaded. You will always load the character that is tied to your Steam account once you join a server.
