FPS issue next to certain trees on experimental 0.36.115297 UPDATE FOR 0.36.115535
New, WishlistPublic

Description

I get significant (50% and more) FPS drops next to trees and it seems not CPU but GPU limited. Turning off AA doesn't help too much so its probably not related to the transparency AA.

First picture the fps are about 70. GPU 99%
Second about 35. GPU 99%
If I go a bit towards the next vilage the GPU utilization drops and CPU now limits to the normal ~50fps Happened to me at different locations on the map. Always this certain types of trees. It was never an issue before the patch. These trees as well:

Firs have no effect.

0.36.115535 added bad performance in other areas as well. I could track it down to the shadow settings and if they are turned off there seems to be no problem at all(20 vs 80fps). Even lower setting helps a lot. Very high shadows didn't affect the performance nearly as much in the stable.
Update:
The ambient oclussion doesn't work anymore(no visable difference) however the performance is the same as if it is activated together with very high shadow settings. To get the performance like without AO you have to reduce/disable shadows completely.
Having shadows set to normal bringing better performance than before. 60(stable) vs 70fps(exp). Menue screen(same like described below). {F30271} {F30272}

use 0.36.115297/115535 and
pass certain treelines as shown above; even in an open area with overall high fps.
Also use the mainscreen with the sunset shining from behind the char in the woods 52(stable build) vs 33fps; same settings.
See attached screenshots
With the new experimental it occurs in extended areas but not evrywhere.

i downloaded the experimental build (0.37.115791) 10 minutes ago. i noticed this issue with exactly the same background in the mainscreen as the author pointed out and get about 19 fps vs. 40 (stable build) with shadows set to very high.

if i set shadows to medium then everything seems fine and i noticed no visual difference.

my average fps dropped from about 40 to 30 in wilderness.

while playing this issue occurs when next to bushes or/and trees and looking in their direction. it usually occurs when you have much foliage in front of you and more extremely if directly next to you (except for grass).

but also seems that this is not only caused by trees

-> http://imgur.com/mGtBOAy (higher fps (but lower than on stable build), more trees)
