Suppressors seem to be just as loud as when you're only using the flash hider. I've tested it, and it seems to me that un-suppressed and suppressed M4A1,sounds the same.

My suppressor is in the "orange" condition, "badly damaged". That might be the issue.
My stated game version, "13742" might be wrong, i'm on a different computer than my gaming rig. The time i tested this, d17-m12-y2013

I was in the hospital at Elektro and my friend was in the school/office building and he could still hear it as if he was inches away from me.
These are suppressors, not "silencers".

A suppressed M4 compared to standard.
Although a rifle will certainly not be silent with a suppressor attached, I do believe the change in sound levels has yet to be implemented.
Would be nice to see later on maybe a silencer crafted from a diesel of petrol filter as a temp silencer (Quick degrade )
and military grade to slowly degrade over time ?
Suppresors don't remove bullet velocity - subsonic crack still audible. Tested with a friend who litened for bullets passing by.
We found a pristine supressor and I'm pretty sure it did work. I can confirm that the badly damaged supressors definatly do not work as i have tried my self. Could be one of those lamp bugs once u change server the supressor doesnt work...
Would like to vote down because of reporting a damaged silencer
wheras good discusion undearneath
@Dogmeat
I sincerely hope not, SD ammo was by far one of the most annoying oversights of ARMA/DayZ mod. To create a game on a "realistic" simulation engine and then insinuate that only subsonic ammunition could be used through a suppressor ... developers, if you're reading this, please don't repeat the mistake.
And suppressors in the game do not affect flash from my testing.
I have this too
Maybe you need SD ammo to make it suppressed?
Does it affect muzzle flash?
-Confirmed and tested with pristine 556 suppressor.
-Removed and fired M4 without suppressor as a control in each test.
-Tested with 3x player at various distances (roughly): 50 meters, 100m, 200m.
-Tested while shooting towards and away from players.
-Tested while used inside various buildings.
-Tested using various magazine sizes: 10, 20, 30(both types), 40, and 60 coupled.
RESULTS: ~Not Working~ Doesn't function in any way shape or form, currently just a gun aesthetic.
I can confirm that suppressor does not work, I have two of them but non of them are working...
They sound the same because they use the same sound. The devs are using placeholder sounds. It will be fixed in a later patch
Silencers reduce draw of zombies. suppressors in real life don't make a gun of high caliber completely silent only reduces velocity. This isn't Call Of Duty. Welcome to the real world kids.
Can confirm found a pristine suppressor today. Low and behold it does not reduce the sound at all.
cockmangledcheezewhiz, this is not a forum.
The notes are to be used for helping with bug problems only, do not abuse this feature.
Thanks.
Vollinchen - I own suppressors, I don't expect the report to match the unsuppressed gun at any damage level
What are you expecting the suppressor to do? make the gun silent?
Suppressors work by reducing the sound created by firing a bullet so that it cannot be heard at longer distances. They also slow the velocity of bullets to prevent super sonic cracks.
I have gotten my hands on a pristine suppressor, and it still doesn't decrease the loudness
