White dots sometimes appear on tree textures
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Like when playing Arma 2, the rendering of trees sometimes has artifacts. The issue is the multiple tiny white dots. Probably only a pixel in size for each dot. {F29681} {F29682} {F29683}

Additional Information

The dots may appear after zooming and not before.
Conversely, the dots may appear before zooming and not after zooming.
The dots may appear if you move the camera/view a little to either side.
The dots may appear if you move the camera/view a little up or down.
I believe the dots can appear on all types of tree textures, but I haven't confirmed that.

I have noticed that the antialising for trees and grass has been very buggy on one occasion, where the textures did not show properly and you could see the three planes or so that make up the "branches" of each treee. I have not made a report for that bug. A reinstall of DayZ standalone fixed this issue earlier, since I couldn't fix it on my own.

Using AMD Radeon 7950 in crossfire with 13.11 cat drivers.
I have enclosed the dxdiag txt and screenshot in a zip file.
I added an image from the zip file and also an image showing my settings.

I guess I should add that I have alpha to coverage disabled as well.

same bug on same video card. can see white dots on all spruce trees on close range if i look from some angles and only in the daytime.
only happens when texture filtering settings higher than very low and alpha to coverage is disabled.

"This bugged me too for a long time on my 280x. After a lot of research, what helped me is to go the CCC 3d settings and set anisotropic filtering on "override application settings" to 4x or higher. Also turn "surface format optimization" off."

Same happens always Radeon R9 290 14.4

Same happens to me. The pine tree's look like Christmas tree's.
Also if you double tap 'Alt' so you're in free look the textures of the bushes, trees and grass all change colour. Does that happen to you too. Might make a separate report for it.

lord_xenu reddit post fixed my issues. I am running a single HD7970 by the way.
It also fixed the 'Alt' double tap problem so I presume the two were related.
Thanks drouz

Hello there,

this is a problem with AMD drivers and not the game itself. We cannot fix something that is caused by external software that is not developed by us. Unfortunately, we all will have to wait for AMD to fix this in some future driver release. For the time being, do not override any application settings in the drivers and you should be ok.
