Ruined items continue to work
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Most ruined items with functionality continue to work even when in "Ruined" condition.

Notably:

  • can openers
  • cans of food
  • Bottles and canteens

I assume this isn't a bug but a design/balancing issue.

Steps To Reproduce

Use a ruined can opener to open a ruined can of food and enjoy some delicious beans with some fresh spring water from a ruined canteen.

Additional Information

Most items in a ruined condition should probably loose their functionality if it is "binary" (like the can opener). Other items' functionality could degrade in quality (like bottle or canteens could hold less water or loose it over time if in bad shape).

All ruined items are usable, even backpacks. Although in a backpack, items stored there should lose their condition value over time but I have not noticed that happening

I have seen worn knives, bayonets, and other sharp items 'ruined' but still able to open cans.

'Ruined' food still open able and eatable. Water canteens that still quench thirst and hold water when ruined. ruined vests and pants holding items still.

Worse yet ruined items that are recoverable like ammo being loaded into magazines and removed.

This is a major balance issue

Also, you can load RUINED M4 mags. Not by draging them to a gun, but by using the action from action menu to load diferent magazine.

Ruined M4 mags? That's ridiculous those things basically are not destroyable

Yeah, what is the point of item quality if it all functions perfectly while ruined? The ONLY items I've noticed a quality difference on are optics and even then the long range scope has no quality differences.

Still a good point tho: Durable items like metal parts (can openers and cans, ammo, my axe and whatever) shouldn't possibly degrade to ruined by a zombie-bare-hands-attack.

So tho it is an issue, I find it forgiveable.

Ruined items seems to happen from random sources, need a description of why damage happened. And ruined items still work including clothing.

most ruined items that don't make sense that you can use them, you can no longer use.

I think dedicated issues should be opened for them if they exist. This is fixed.
