The majority of the time when removing an item larger than 1 block (such as a magazine or protector case but 90% of the time it is a protector case) from the inventory and place it on the ground, the item will disappear from the vicinity column and you must exit the inventory, wait a few seconds (5-7) and it has always reappears somewhere about 2 meters nearby
