Go to your My Docs Folder & delete DayZ + DayZ other profiles folders.
Steam > r/click DayZ, properties, local files, verify game cache.

You will have to reconfigure settings in-game after launch.

If still not working, or it breaks again after quitting DayZ - vote up issue 0000112

to Dperilli21:
Please let us know in note section if you are still able to reproduce this issue in latest Development build.

If so, please send us dxdiag and files from this folder: "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"

Can you pack the files in winrar and upload it somewhere?
When the *.rar will be smaller than 2.097k, you can attach it here. Thank you.

For future reporting please refer to "How to guide" http://feedback.dayzgame.com/how-to-user.html

Issue 0000112 is totally different from this one.

Hi, I just bought DayZ and am having the same issue Dperilli21 reported. Game hasn't ever started successfully. It gives me a black screen at startup and sometimes greenish matrix-like flickering, but mostly black. Game doesn't actually "crash" it keeps running black screen, i can tab out and back into it.

Tried running dxdiag located in Steam\SteamApps\common\DayZ\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\dxdiag.exe
Didn't resolve the issue.

Running 2x AMD R9 290's
Catalyst 13.12
Win 7 x64

Will try downloading latest Catalyst drivers when i get home.

EDIT: Installed Catalyst 14.4 and still having same issue. Any suggestions?

Hello,

could you please upload your dxdiag and. rpt files?

The .rpt file can be found here: C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\

You can get the dxdiag file this way:

  1. Press WinKey + R.
  2. Type 'dxdiag' (without the quotes).
  3. Press Enter.
  4. In dxdiag window, click on 'Save All Information' button.
  5. Upload the resulting file.

Uploaded the files.

EDIT:
I read somewhere that you need to uninstall AMD Catalyst completely to install the new 14.x which i didn't do.
When i tried uninstalling it, i got error 1719 "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed". So I ended up just installing 14.4 ontop of 13.12 which i decided to rectify. I did System Restore to before I upgraded to 14.4 and found a registry fix for my problem with Windows Installer Service, applied it, rebooted and the 13.12 uninstall went smooth. Rebooted and then installed 14.4 - made me feel good to do this, but unfortunately I'm still just getting a black screen when I start the game. There was some progress though, I could hear birds chirping away. Seems like the game is totally running, just not communicating with my monitor =/

Hi,

first of all, please try verifying the integrity of the game cache.

  1. Right-click DayZ in the Steam library
  2. Click properties
  3. Switch to the local files tab
  4. Click "Verify integrity of game cache"

If the problem persists, try deleting all the files in the following file locations:

"C:\Users\[NAME]\AppData\Local\DayZ"
"C:\Users\[NAME]\Documents\DayZ"

Please let me know if any of the solutions helped resolve your issue or if your problem still persists.

Thank you!

Already verified the integrity of the game cache the other day, but did it again now. All files successfully validated. Removed the files in the folders you mentioned. Tried to disable Crossfire in Catalyst aswell. Still just getting a black screen.

Is it possible to get more active support? I know I agreed to spending the money on this game knowing it was buggy. But at this point I've spent money and not been able to get any kind of positive experience out of it. Do you do phone support? Really want to get this sorted!

Hi,

this issue is most likely caused by drivers or some of your hardware. Please try reverting to an earlier non-beta version of drivers for your GPU in case you have been using beta drivers up until now.

As a temporary workaround, try the following when you get the black screen:

Press [Shift]+[-](minus on your numpad)
Type "flush"
Press [Enter]

There is also a possibility that there are some resolution problems. To rule that out, also try the following:

  1. Locate the .cfg file here: C:\Users\MyUser\Documents\DayZ\DayZ.cfg and open it with wordpad or similar.
  2. Change the resolution values, thusly:

Resolution_W=1920
Resolution_H=1080

Remember to replace those values with your monitor's native resolution!!

  1. Save and launch DayZ.

I usually dont use beta drivers. What I have installed currently is the latest stable release Catalyst 14.4
My keyboard is a shortened one, it doesn't have a numpad so i couldn't try the keystroke you suggested. So all I did was change the DayZ.cfg and entered my resolution 2560x1440 instead of what it was set to by default (640x480)

It worked!

I'm running into some new issues now but this specific problem is now resolved.
Thanks!

Glad to hear we managed to identify the problem and get rid of it.

Please submit any other issues you are experiencing as separate reports.

Thank you!
