The screen turns completely black shortly after launch. Key presses are not registered at all. Crtl Alt Del does nothing. To fix the problem I have to restart my computer by holding the power button. Also sometimes after the windows starting screen it stays black just like before. I then have to start the computer in safe mode first before i can start it in normal mode. I used to be able to play the game just fine before today.

Yes, it will rapidly repeat a few milliseconds of audio. Like I said, this was brought on by the most recent update.
The time it takes to crash can vary greatly, from under five minutes to over 30.

This is happening to me also. Will have a sudden lull in FPS, then PC lockup and BSoD

We have a guy this started happening to after the 722 patch. We sent him out to update his video card bios and drivers, which didn't help.
