I finally found some paper to go with my pen.
But whatever I tried I could not write on the paper - The mousewheel option to "write on paper" came up, but nothing happened when I did it. Tried having the pen in my hands didn't work. tried having the paper on the floor didn't work.

Can't try to reproduce since shortly after I slipped off the slippery deck of the wrecked ship and died...

Some other people on the internet have been writing notes; but perhaps that was an earlier version.

(It was a red pen. it was "worn").
Don't remember the status of the paper.
