I had a Mosin on my back and the M4 in my hands. I thought id take a screenshot of the gear. I logged out and saw my character had the Mosin(which was on the back before logging out) in his hands. Logging back in the game the M4 wasn't there anymore.

Additional Information
I'm thinking the system takes the weapon you got on your back and puts it in your hands for the character screen. And by doing so overwrites and deletes the ingame in-hand weapon.
