its time to make night vision more realistic and helpful.
this part of game didnt really changed from old good flashpoint times much and looks like it can be made much better. Now its looks like bright day with nvd and completly darkness without it, but its obviously not realistic.
i have used much binocular-monocular setups and can say arma definitely needs some new features:
an option to take off eye-cups
adjustable gain
autogating
whats wrong with current implementation?
- Eyecups.
i think, at first, we need to distinguish monocular and binocular NVDs.
Currently, we have pretty authentic binocular expirience, with only problem is we have absolutle no peripheral vision. On triple monitor configuration i can see only the center display and thats keep
making me sad. All other displays immersed into darkness, when in real life i can just take off eyecup and still be able to see, measure lit level and see real colours of light sources. Yeap, its
pretty nice to see whats that is lighting in faraway - a flashlight, blue chemlight or red stop illumintaion of the truck (which can be completly off, as in IRL).
So, i think we need a way to take eyecups off.
I dont speaking about removing all the fade area, no, absolutly no. I think black area should have shape of NVD eyepiece and make all the areay around it non-intensified.
Whats for eyecups was ever invented? to protect soldier from disclosure by lit of his own eyes, reflected from nvg devices. It can be observed when you looking from left or right side, not directly.
Now this lit could be almost at all eliminated using amber filters, or, in old fashion, with eyecups. Why not give a player an opportunity to decide if he need advantages of more peripheral vision or
if he need to stay in complete darkness?
Think i should mention monocular nvds, which should also have the same capabilities, but also have a great advantage with keeping one eye unintensified: in this setup brain working in interesting way,
when unintensified picture laying on intensified, so we can distinguish a light color directly inside the eyepiece. It also making one eye less good at peripheral because of nvd, but you still be able to see what happening at this side.
- Adjustable gain is absolutly must have.
I ever saw it in ACE mod on arma2, cant get why its not implimented in arma3 like some features from it :)
In some environmets (under the flashlight) its just to much light to be able aim. In real life its enough just to rotate knob to make it less bright, but in arma3 its making me to hunt flashlight with silenced gun in multiplayer.
- Autogating.
If its too much light (long unsuppressed burst, grenade or tank gun shot) the nvg making itself dim to prevent damaging and let the user be able to see, not to stay blind for seconds.
small noties, i just cant not to mention:
#in fact there is no focus on nvds in game, which eating a lot of time when on movement, you can setup device to nearest or far object, thats the reason you _ABSOLUTLE_ unable to use iron sight with NVD, you wont we able to see them clear, just onfocused spot in field of view.
#no matter which light condition, nvds turning any night to the bright day, but in reality there is only under direct moonlight/starlight, and obviously it making nvds very noisy in the woods.
i can provide any photo samples if needed.
We should have great nightops!
