Squad AI actions unintuitive

I was in a campaign scenario where I wanted a squad AI member to get a fresh weapon that was on the ground in front of us since he was out of ammo. I noticed the menu that allows a squad member to do something is very unintuitive in that it is not sorted by distance to the actionable item. I had to go through every pickup weapon command in order to figure out which was the weapon that was next to us since all the dead AI carry the same gun. In other words, there's no way to distinguish pickup weapon next to us, or pickup weapon 100 meters away. I wish there was a way to select squad member using F-keys, and just point at an actionable thing and tell them to do it.
