Request Oxygen updates and online configurator for addons/mods

Description

Hello!
I hope this is the right place for me to give the following feedback...
I have recently started to create 3d content at Volcbat for arma3. I use Maya and Max and have no programming skills...
Please I mean this in the most constructive way but so far I have found the whole process of creating 3d content with BIS tools very tedious because of the outdated nature of the tools provided by BIS.

  1. Oxygen 2 UI is outdated/confusing and has not kept up with today's current modeling tools look/feel and functionality (either CAD like Inventor, Solidworks... or rendering like VRED, Showcase, Maya, Max, Blender...)
  2. Once a model is eventually ready as a p3d file, creating the various config files is just impossible for people like me who simply don't understand programming code used in arma3 (and that's before we mention code functions being changed between arma3 updates, various BIS webpages/wiki that are providing code snippets but not templates for each content type -or so it seems to me- and do not help novices build the required files.

In my opinion, the strength of the ARMA series is that it is a sandbox type of game that allows users to make and add their own content so it can be shared with the rest of the ARMA community.
Creativity should therefore be prioritised over programming skills.

What I would like to suggest BIS do as soon as possible:

  1. Update Oxygen to accept more file formats (like FBX, ma, mb, vpb, mud files)
  2. Improve/simplify Oxygen UI for creation of LODs, proxies, etc... and provide F1 type help functionality along with official youtube tutorials showing how to create content from the ground up (weapons, attachments, vehicles, buildings, material...)
  3. Create an online code configurator UI that would work as follows: a) user is asked what new 3d content is being created (vehicle, weapon, uniform, accessory, attachment... b) depending on previous choice, interface shows appropriate options that would normally have to be manually coded. For example, if choosing to add a weapon mod, UI would ask where to load the p3d, paa, rvmat etc files from, then provide sound, muzzle flash, reload, magazine, optics, side, muzzle attachments choice options (all as visual interface, no coding).

If selecting to create an attachment (like a bayonet), UI would request to specify which weapon it will work with, ballistic effect, muzzle flash, etc... For a vehicle, UI would have visual slots where moving parts could be specified, entry points, sitting points (although currently this is done in Oxygen I believe?), etc..

   c) once the UI has been set up with all the necessary information, a 'generate pbo' button at the bottom of the UI would ensure all config files (model, config,etc...) are automatically generated, linked to associated p3d, pas, wav, etc.. and the final pbo created on the user local machine.

Like I mentioned before, I believe a lot of the 3d content creation process could be automated/dumbed down by BIS so more content is created and shared between users. There will of course be models that are very difficult to make and will require expert knowledge and manual coding but something needs to be done to allow people with basic (yet good) modeling skills to easily generate content too.
